ITINERARY

Day 1: Lima - Paracas

Our trip starts in the capital Lima, we drive along the coastline on the pan-american highway to the south. On the way we stop to visit the Inca and pre-Inca ruins of Pachacamac and eat a nice fish soup or cebiche near the ocean. We spent the night in the Bay of Paracas.

Day 2:  Paracas – Nazca
We get up early to visit the Ballestas Islands with our nature guide and speed boat. The islands are full of wildlife; you will be able to observe Humboldt penguins, sea stars and hundreds of sea lions and birds. After this excursion near the Pacific coast we drive to the oasis of La Huacachina in the Ica Desert. Here we go off-roading in the desert with specially prepared dune-buggies and you ‘ll have the chance to try sand boarding. It’s an unforgettable experience!   Then we continue our journey a few more hours south to the city of Nazca.   Here your guide will explain you everything about the mysterious Nazca-lines and you will enjoy a very special ancestral dinner. You’ll spend the night in an old hacienda.

Day 3: Nazca – Chalhuanca
Today we start driving into the Andes mountains. The scenery is changing dramatically. First we will drive next to the ‘Cerro Blanco’, the highest sand dune of America, and through a crazy ‘moon’ landscape.   As we go higher we’ll pass little villages and drive through ‘Pampa Galleras’, a national reserve that protects the beautiful vicuna animals (cammeloids).   Over passes and through beautiful Andean valleys we get to Chalhuanca, where we spend the night in a beautiful hotel.

Day 4: Chalhuanca- Cusco
We drive further into Andes mountains. Today we see snow-capped mountains and drive along the beautiful Apurimac Canyon and river. We’ll have lunch in one the many small Andean villages we pass on the way. We stop to visit the mysterious ritual stone of Saywite. This incredible Inca stone sculpture represents the three regions of Peru: the coast, the Andes Mountains and the Amazon jungle. In the stone each region is represented with its typical animals. The use of this stone for Inca rituals to mother earth, the sun, the moon and the mountains will be explained.   We spent the night in Cusco.

Day 5: Cusco
In the morning you can rest or explore Cusco. In the afternoon we take you on a tour of the city and its nearby Inca ruins. In the evening we will take you to some cozy restaurants and bars.

Day 6: Sacred Valley of the Incas
We visit the fertile Sacred Valley of the Incas. We bring a visit to the colorful indigenous market and impressive ruins of Pisac. We try the local food and visit a ceramic artist in the valley. We visit the fortress of Ollantaytambo and spent the night in this cozy, still inhabited Inca-village.

Day 7: Machu Picchu
From Ollantaytambo you take a scenic train ride to Aguas Calientes, the village of Machu Picchu. You will have a guided tour of The Lost City of the Incas and plenty of free time to make pictures. In the later afternoon you have a train back to Ollantaytambo and you’ll spend the night in Cusco.

Day 8: Lima – Departure
Flight back to the capital Lima. You could fly back home this evening or choose to stay another night in Peru.
