On September 27th, the day the world comes together to celebrate World Tourism Day organized by the UN World Tourism Organzation, the founder of Vamos Expeditions, Miss Annelies Hamerlinck, was chosen by the Tourism Commission (CATUR) as Ambassador of World Tourism, this event took place in one of Peru's mayor tourist towns, Nazca.

Since 1980 the World Tourism Organization (WTO) has celebrated September 27th as World Tourism Day, in order to promote the great variety and richness of tourist attractions around the world which creates new ways of income for many people in third world countries – especially women.

For this occasion Miss Annelies Hamerlinck from the tour operator Vamos Expeditions was chosen as the special guest and crowned as Ambassador of World Tourism in one of Peru’s major tourist towns: Nazca. The whole team of Vamos Expeditions was present and honored. They met with the Mayor of Nazca and participated in various meetings and press conferences including the hoisting of the Peruvian and United Nations flags, a parade of the town, the opening of a new handicraft market, and an ode to the German scientist Maria Reiche who dedicated her life to studying and caring for the Nazca lines. The ceremony concluded with a flight in a small plane over the famous Nazca lines providing a spectacular bird’s eye view of these mysterious figures on the desert floor of a hummingbird, a monkey, a fish and a spider amongst others.

Vamos Expeditions also received an official documentation called “resolucion” which seals the working relationship between Vamos Expeditions and the region of Nazca, in which Vamos Expeditions is recognized for its excellent sustainable tourism practises and thanked for the given support to the area that suffered from the 2007 earthquake.
