Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! On arrival in Lima, we will wait for you in the airport and you will be transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon you have a tour of ancestral, colonial and modern Lima. In the evening you have the chance to try your first Pisco Sour (Peru’s national cocktail) during your first delicious Peruvian dinner.

Day 2 Cusco

An early morning flight takes us high into the Andes to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire. We will take it a bit easy in the morning to adapt to the higher altitude and walk around to explore this wonderful town. If you feel energetic you have the possibility to take a guided tour of Cusco and of the ruins just outside the city to visit the places of most interest.

Day 3 Sacred Valley / Ollantaytambo

We make an excursion along the fertile Sacred Valley of the Incas. Learn about the impressive ruins of Pisac and Ollantaytambo on hikes with our local guide and visit various Quechua towns. We spend the night at the ancient little town of Ollantaytambo.

Day 4, 5, 6 Classic Inca Trail

Today starts the Inca Trail. In the morning we will meet our team of guides, porters and the cook that will take care of us during the hike. After a short bus ride, we arrive at the starting point of the 4-day trail to Machu Picchu. We hike through the Andes mountain range to the lost city of Incas, passing through Sierra and cloud forest landscapes.

Day 7 Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – Cusco

On the fourth day of the Inca Trail, our steep assents over mountain passes will be rewarded as the mist rises off the mountains revealing the forgotten city of Machu Picchu. We’ll have a guided tour of the site, and then you will have plenty of time on your own to enjoy the peace and beauty of Machu Picchu before we take the train back to Cusco.

Day 8 and 9 Amazon jungle

A short flight takes us to Puerto Maldonado in the heart of the Amazon Jungle. A motorized canoe brings us 2 hours up river to our lodge where we spend time exploring jungle trails to learn about many local plants and their uses. We also search for wildlife and hope to see caiman (alligators), monkeys and many species of birds including parrots and toucans. The Tambopata Rainforest Reserve holds the world record for the greatest number of bird species in one area.

Day 10 Return to Lima and departure

Today we return from Puerto Maldonado over Cusco to Lima. This day you could take a night flight back home or stay another night in the ‘City of Kings’.
