Mysterious Markahuasi

Mysterious Markahuasi

Itinerary

Day 1
In the afternoon we drive with our private vehicle to the village of San Pedro de Casta, at 3000 msnm. We pass the evening and night in the municipal hostal of San Pedro.

Day 2
After a good breakfast we start our hike (this is also possible by horse). Donkeys will walk with us and carry our luggage, food and tents towards the Markahuasi “Anfiteather” where we will set up our camp. This place has an altitude of 4100 m and the clouds here don’t cover de sky, they are below.

In clear days with good visibility you can see the Pacific Ocean from here. At night, you can see the Milky Way, the constellations, close planets and often shooting stars. We would highly recommend you bring your binoculars or telescope, if you have one.

Due to the abundance of metal there are several magnetic rocks in Markahuasi, you could bring a compass to check this out. This magnetism motivates many people to come here to feel “the energy of the place.” Others come here to enjoy the gorgeous landscapes and to see the curious figures in the rocks. Some say the figures are made by erosion, other theories tell that they might be made by ancient civilizations or even by extraterrestrials.

After lunch we make a walk to “Fortress” and the “Valley of the Focas” or you can choose to stay and relax around the campsite.

Day 3
After breakfast we walk to the pre-Incan ruins and to the monument of humanity. From here we follow the path back down to San Pedro de Casta, where you can try an ancestral meal called Pacha Manca (optional). Our bus will be waiting for us to take us back to Lima. You will be back in Lima between 5 and 7pm.

Note: On the way up to Markahuasi, donkeys will carry our luggage. Please do not bring unnecessary luggage, maximum 8 kilos per person will be allowed. Next to this each one can carry his own small day pack to have your camera, water bottle, sweater, etc. close to you.
